BCEM developed and financed a 7 MW captive solar power project for Power Cement Limited at Nooriabad, Sindh, Pakistan, helping the plant reduce reliance on grid electricity and improve long-term energy predictability.
This project reflects BCEM’s approach to industrial decarbonization: structured delivery, bankable documentation, proven engineering partners, and long-term operational accountability.
Overview
Industrial manufacturers in Pakistan face tariff uncertainty, supply interruptions, and rising production costs. For energy-intensive operations, even short disruptions can translate into meaningful losses. Captive solar provides a practical hedge—delivering cleaner electricity on-site, reducing exposure to peak tariffs, and strengthening business continuity.
The plant has been operating since 2022, supporting Power Cement’s operational resilience and sustainability roadmap.
Technical specifications
The system is designed for dependable industrial performance and integrates:
- Installed capacity: 7 MW
- Number of panels: 13,000
- Panel rating: 540W per panel
- Annual generation: 55 GWh
- CO₂ offset: 40,000 tons/year
- Operational uptime: 95%
Delivery model
BCEM’s role spanned project development, financing, execution oversight, and long-term alignment with the off-taker’s operational needs. The project was implemented with Orient Energy Systems as the technical partner, and commissioned in August 2022.
The commercial structure was designed to be scalable and repeatable—supporting industrial adoption of renewables through Shariah-aligned financing mechanisms and long-tenor arrangements.
Performance and reliability
This project operates as a practical energy asset for the off-taker—built for real-world plant conditions. It is designed to deliver consistent output and high availability to support production continuity, while improving predictability in energy planning.
Sustainability and impact
By generating electricity from solar energy, the project reduces grid demand and supports measurable emissions avoidance—directly contributing to lower-carbon industrial operations.
Community benefits
Stable on-site generation strengthens local energy reliability and supports jobs through ongoing operations and maintenance activities.
What’s next
BCEM’s work with Power Cement extends beyond solar, with additional captive clean energy initiatives underway to further strengthen reliability and deepen decarbonization.
